NEW YORK (Apr 15, 1996 - 20:12 EST) -- Detroit Red Wings defenseman Vladimir Konstantinov won the NHL's plus-minus competition after finishing the regular season with a plus-60 rating, the best mark since Edmonton's Wayne Gretzky finished plus-70 in the 1986-87 season.
Konstantinov outdistanced teammates Sergei Fedorov (+49) and Slava Fetisov (+37) and Pittsburgh's Petr Nedved (+37) in the league's overall standings.
Players on the ice for an even-strength or shorthanded goal by their team receive a plus, while those on the ice for the opposing team receive a minus. The overall rating is the difference between the accumulated totals.
Pittsburgh Penguins forward Ron Francis won the award last year with a plus-30 rating.
